Taranaki is tonight being blasted by a dramatic electrical storm that is seeing lightning flashes every few seconds, loud thunder, torrential rain and hail says our New Plymouth reporter Greg Taylor.
The thunderstorms started earlier this evening and show no signs of letting up with further rain bands marching in.
WeatherWatch.co.nz warns flash and surface flooding are “highly likely” in some areas tonight, especially in northern parts of Taranaki, facing the Tasman Sea.

Passing through Tauranga just now, some good rumbles, flashes and heavy rain. Love it.
