As of 2024 we will no longer be publishing questions related to weather forecasts if they are answered via our hyper-local hourly & 10 day forecasts, weather maps and regular daily and monthly weather & climate videos.

We’re a small NZ business with limited resources to respond to general weather questions. Our social media pages may be helpful to you, especially if you want to often talk (or groan!) about your local weather.Β You can find more resources from us here if that’s your thing.

Heading to Doubtless Bay for Easter. Was looking forward to getting out on the water to fish. Not so sure now, what sea state will be. Any idea as to swell conditions in Doubtless Bay over Easter period?

WW Forecast Team on 15/04/2025 12:33am

Hi there – you can view waves here: https://www.weatherwatch.co.nz/maps-radars/marine/swell

Could pick up for a time.

I see the weather looks bad for the north of both Islands. We’re going to Taupo Tuesday to Friday this week – is it likely to escape the worst of it? Seems to be wet from Thursday?

WW Forecast Team on 14/04/2025 1:28am

Hi Des, take a look at our latest video – it shows the areas most affected by wind and rain in the coming days. Taupo is exposed to some of it, but not all of it. Tuesday is ok, Wednesday windy – Thu/Fri look wet and windy.

See it in graph form here: https://www.ruralweather.co.nz/forecasts/Taup%C5%8D,%20Waikato

WeatherObserver on 12/04/2025 2:52am

On the videos from last Wednesday-Thursday, the maps showed almost no rain, and it was said that the weather models’ maps have been β€˜flip flopping’ frequently between dry AND wet, yet all forecasts on both the website and the app showed
only steady increase in the chance and amount of rain from 30 to 50mm (no changing to dry AND wet weather as suggested in the video). Why there is such a huge difference between the app and your video forecasts? Though for now both sources are aligned, but wondering why the differences occurred on those two days.

WW Forecast Team on 12/04/2025 5:36am

Hi there, it was simply the run of one model (an outlier) used in our videos (and had also been a bit β€˜back and forth’ in the days leading up to that video) – but our website(s) & app update hourly using hundreds of computer modelling/ensembles added to it. The data on our site is more accurate than the maps we use.

Also, April is notorious for sudden lows deepening as high pressure systems over NZ move through much faster and come in different shapes – making longer range forecasts much more difficult/changeable than previous months during summer.
– Cheers WW
