hey ww. is auckland heading back into a rainfall defecit? very dry and no rain for the next 2 weeks 🙁 drought alert.
why does auckland go from one extreme to another. extreme rain/ flooding one year. drought/dry the next year?

Hey Josh, yes Auckland (especially the western half) is going into drought now. Very little rain expected next two weeks, just a few showers.
It’s all about NZ’s mountains and ranges – if NZ was flat Auckland’s weather (and everyone elses!) would be more consistent and more of a mix of wind, showers, cloud and dry spells – but our hills break up rain and make some places wet and others dry…when the wind reverses itself you then get the other side wet and the other side dry.

hey Phil and team. thanks for the climate watch. very informative. hoping for some rain tonight. not a lot but met service has a mod risk for thundery like heavy showers tonight so hoping for a watering.

Hi Phil and team,
We are in the Manawatu, Sunday evening there is the strong smell of smoke, the whole Manawatu is white and hard to see from Feilding to Palmy and every direction is white with smoke, do you know where it’s coming from, or how we find out? Actually stings my eyes. There is a breeze, so it’s widespread.

Hi Phil & weather watch team.
Excellent commentary across the weather over the summer months.
Just wondering if any long range computer that you have, shows a change or at least decent break between the dominant highs to allow for, maybe a chance of a low of decent wetter weather to come into the New Zealand area.

Our March outlook will be released around March 1st – hard to lock in what will happen in March this far out but our videos next week/last week of Feb will start to paint the picture.
Loads of energy to our north and our south – but some solid/calming/settled high pressure moving in to our area too.
