As of 2024 we will no longer be publishing questions related to weather forecasts if they are answered via our hyper-local hourly & 10 day forecasts, weather maps and regular daily and monthly weather & climate videos.
We’re a small NZ business with limited resources to respond to general weather questions. Our social media pages may be helpful to you, especially if you want to often talk (or groan!) about your local weather. You can find more resources from us here if that’s your thing.

Are those rain forecasts for Monday and Tuesday locked in?

Hi Chris – Not Tuesday totally yet, but Monday is more so now that the low has started to develop properly.

hi guys what are the chances for snow to lower hills in nelson next week?

Watch our daily videos – next week’s snow risks still aren’t known and have been wildly changing each day. A lot of conflicting forecasts/modelling due to the chaos around us. We wouldn’t want to take a guess yet.

Is it no longer the case that low pressure will dominate our weather for the next few weeks? I didn’t think high pressure was expected any time soon.

Hi there, in winter beyond 10 days can be very tricky – high pressure over Aussie is half affecting us this week, then briefly crosses over NZ.
Chaotic / neutral weather patterns like this spit out both lows and highs and the most tricky part about longer range forecasting in NZ is trying to pinpoint precisely where those controlling highs will eventually track (they only have to move slightly faster to replace a low). It’s why we’re not big fans of overly long range forecasts for NZ.

This is one of those weather pattern/storm that is more informative to follow on your RAIN FORECAST as most of the rain is further out to sea than RAIN RADAR can cover. If you haven’t tried the rain forecast before, have a look, it’s interesting.
