A front sweeps northwards over New Zealand today bringing rain or showers to most regions for a time, heavy in the west.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
The odd shower then rain develops late afternoon, easing in the evening as northerly winds change westerly. Conditions becoming mainly dry by midnight.
Highs: 15-17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy with the odd shower, turning to rain during the afternoon with heavy falls possible (especially about Taranaki) then easing in the evening as northerlies (gusty about the coast) change westerly.
Highs: 12-15

Eastern North Island
High cloud thickens in the morning, a few spots of rain develop during the afternoon then clearing around midnight. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 16-18

Wellington
Cloudy with rain developing towards midday, clearing in the evening as breezy northerlies tend northwest.
High: 13-14

Marlborough & Nelson
Cloudy with the odd spot of rain, rain more persistent from midday then clearing in the evening. Gusty northerly
winds.
Highs: 13-14

Canterbury
Morning high cloud with a few spots of rain, heavy falls in the high country then breaking to some sun in the afternoon with light winds. Evening showers with a southwest change then clearing overnight.
Highs: 12-15

West Coast
Rain with heavy falls, easing to showers in the afternoon as breezy northerly winds change westerly.
Highs: 11-13

Southland & Otago
Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, afternoon showers (more so for inland areas and coastal Otago). Parts of coastal Southland may stay mainly dry. Light winds tend southwest.
Highs: 12-14
