Weather headlines (x3) for Friday: Rumble of thunder today? Frost risk eases, Still the chance of a few heavy falls on Saturday

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Here’s what is making the weather headlines today.

PERHAPS A RUMBLE OF THUNDER?

Showers for the North Island may have a little instability in them today, perhaps the chance of some thunder and if heavy showers form maybe some small hail then easing this evening.

Thunder potential is basically where showers form in the east (Gisborne ranges through to Wairarapa) and in the southwest (Taranaki through to Manawatu), a lesser chance exists about Bay Of Plenty and the ranges of Nelson / Tasman.

Keep an eye out for Metservice’s thunderstorm risk map here.

FROSTY RISK PROGRESSIVELY EASES

Frosts are likely for the South Island this morning and again in the weekend but as the days move along the frost risk retreats further inland.

MAYBE THE ODD HEAVY FALL STILL ON SATURDAY

Expect rain or showers for the North Island on Saturday in an easterly airflow, rain about Bay Of Plenty, East Cape, Gisborne and Hawkes Bay may be heavy at times.
