For some there has been a little bit of confusion about which cyclone is hitting where and which one is heading our way?
Tropical cyclone Thomas is the main focus currently as Fiji is battening down the hatches, as this powerful storm prepares to take hold of the island nation today and tomorrow. Precautions are in place as sustained winds may top 200 kph.
NZHerald.co.nz is now reporting the first fatality from this ferocious cyclone.
Tropical cyclone Ului is situated near the Solomon Islands but is gathering momentum and one model has it heading towards New Zealand. We should have more certainty about its tracking tomorrow night.
This has the potential to be destructive if it continues to grow at its current rate. Winds have been bandied about above the 300 kph mark but still may head towards Queensland than our shores but it’s being closely monitored.

I am a Insurance Assessor and have been monitoring these cyclones.
Do we know when either of these may head to our shores.
I would like to plan a response if needed.

Hi,
Tomas is not going to affect New Zealand but there’s a slight chance Ului may… only low confidence at this point but there is the potential around next Wednesday.
