A low pressure system gradually passes over New Zealand today moving from west to east, winds from the north changing to the southwest during the evening and overnight.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Showers, especially from afternoon then evening rain moves in. Northwesterly winds freshen then changing blustery southwest overnight with possible thunderstorms.
Highs: 14-16
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Early rain eases to showers, later in the evening rain picks up again with possible heavy falls and thunderstorms. Northwesterly winds, becoming strong in the evening about the coast.
Highs: 10-14
Eastern North Island
Early rain clears then becoming mostly sunny, in the evening scattered rain spreads from the west. Northerlies tend northwest by midday.
Highs: 15-17
Wellington
Morning rain then sunny spells develop in the afternoon as northeasterly winds tend northerly.
High: 14
Marlborough & Nelson
Early rain eases to the odd shower and sunny spells, northerly winds.
Highs: 12-14
Canterbury
Mostly cloudy, there may be a shower or two otherwise mainly dry. Rain develops overnight. Light northeasterlies tend southwest during the afternoon.
Highs: 10-13
West Coast
Showers and sunny spells, rain develops in the evening as southwesterly winds freshen.
Highs: 13-14
Southland & Otago
Showers about Southland and Central Otago, moving into Coastal Otago in the evening. Light winds gradually tend southwest.
Highs: 9-11
