A weak ridge of high pressure lies over the North Island today while northerlies build for the South Island, a front pushes onto the West Coast in the evening.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Morning fog possible then sunny spells, chance of an isolated shower in the afternoon. Light northeasterly winds.
Highs: 16-18

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
A chance of morning fog (mainly inland) then mostly sunny, cloud thickens up in the evening. Northerly winds.
Highs: 14-18

Eastern North Island
Gisborne has a cloudy day, rain eases to the odd light shower around midday. Some morning rain for Hawkes Bay then sunny areas from afternoon, morning cloud about the Wairarapa then mostly sunny. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 15-17

Wellington
Sunny spells with northerly winds, cloud thickens in the evening.
High: 15

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny for Marlborough with high cloud from afternoon. Nelson sees slightly cloudier skies with some morning sun possible then a few light showers develop in the evening, overnight rain. North to northwesterly winds develop from midday.
Highs: 14-16

Canterbury
Morning cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather, some high cloud from afternoon. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 14-16

West Coast
A chance of morning sun then cloud increases, the odd light shower from afternoon then rain moves into South Westland by evening with heavy falls. Rain pushes northwards overnight. Northeasterly winds freshen.
Highs: 11-13

Southland & Otago
Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, a few spots of rain possible in the evening otherwise mainly dry. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 10-13
