A low pressure system just west of the South Island today slowly rotates a front onto the western side of the country during this afternoon and evening.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A chance of morning fog then expect some sun, showers later in the evening then overnight rain. Northerly winds.
Highs: 15-17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy areas about Taranaki with the odd shower. Sunny areas and some cloud elsewhere, in the evening cloud thickens up for all with some rain moving in from the west. Heavy falls possible especially about Taranaki. Northerly winds.
Highs: 12-16

Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny weather, some high cloud develops from afternoon. Spots of rain spread into the Wairarapa overnight. Northerly winds.
Highs: 16-18

Wellington
Thickening cloud, rain develops later in the evening. Breezy northerlies.
High: 14

Marlborough & Nelson
Thickening cloud with some rain from afternoon for Nelson, the odd spot spreading into Marlborough at times. Rain more persistent about Nelson for a time in the evening then Marlborough overnight. Northerlies increase.
Highs: 14-15

Canterbury
Thick high cloud, the odd spot of rain possible. Light northeasterly winds.
Highs: 12-14

West Coast
Rain with heavy falls at times, easing in the evening. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 10-13

Southland & Otago
High cloud thickens from morning, scattered rain develops in the afternoon about Southland and inland areas, spreading to coastal Otago in the evening. Easterly winds.
Highs: 9-11
