The battle of the main centres

> From the WeatherWatch archives

The Xmas and New year period has seen some varied weather with warm conditions in the north and changeable conditions in others regions, with some extremes in the south.

Since Xmas Eve, Auckland has experienced a temperature difference of just 4 degrees for the daily highs whereas the southern cities of Christchurch and Dunedin have seen it vary more than 15 degrees!

Dunedinites have had the hottest and coldest weather but on average sneak ahead of their northern neighbour, which may come as a surprise to red and black residents whereas Tauranga has topped Auckland for the warmest main centre in the last week over the 2009 Xmas holiday period.

7day period starting on the left with Xmas Eve

Having lived in all 6 cities, I would go with Dunedin surprisingly. The changeable and cool weather compliments the character of the city. Love it.
