A ridge of high pressure clings onto the upper North Island tonight and with it comes mainly clear skies and cold overnight lows. A light frost getting down to 1 or 0 degrees is likely in some spots about the Central North Island through to rural southern Auckland. Tonight’s warmest overnight low will likely go to Wellington getting down to 10 or 11 degrees.
A building northwesterly influence can be seen about Southland with a warmer than average night expected.
Warm for eastern regions on Wednesday, high’s getting into the late teens and perhaps even cracking into the 20’s for some due to northwesterlies. Around midday southwesterlies march into Southland however bringing a drop in temperatures, Otago gets its turn during the afternoon then Canterbury at night.
My places to be would be Hawkes Bay and Gisborne waith warm afternoon highs and light winds. Another mention should go to Coromandel, Auckland and Northland where it may not be as warm as elsewhere but winds should be light and skies mostly sunny.
