RainWatch – Main centres see big dry bite

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Today we’re on a slightly different tack and looking at the main centres to see how much rain has fallen inside the last month.

It’s been remarkably dry and the figures across the bigger cities shows how little has fallen.

Auckland 3.8mm

Hamiliton 1.0mm

Tauranga 4.0mm

Wellington 3.6mm

Christchurch 0.8mm

Dunedin 10.2mm

Take into account many warm to hot days for most of the centres which sees moisture being sapped from the ground and into the atmosphere and it’s no wonder that many city backyards and grassy sections resemble a desert.

Rain next week hopefully will ease the situation but it is still a 50/50 call.

There’s been a weakening in some of the data however another disturbance is also appearing in the picture.
