9:30pm polar update:
- Weather stations on islands south of New Zealand indicate the polar air has arrived there in the past 5 hours.
- WeatherWatch.co.nz believes the polar air will only skirt the Southland and Otago coastlines
- We believe the polar air will start to move in to Canterbury after midnight.

Hi Helen/Pete… we anticipate some snow flakes but nothing too heavy at this stage. Check out last news story and Queens Birthday forecast for the latest weather predictions…but we currently anticipate the front to only brush Canterbury – looking more like a central North Island snow event… something we’d say pretty rarely!

What effects do you think this system will have on Invercargill?

Hi Matt,
We don’t anticipate too much for Invercargill – the Catlins will see the worst of it. Could be some sleet and maybe a snow flake or two. Otherwise just wind cold and partly cloudy.
