Outlook for the week ahead

> From the WeatherWatch archives

This coming week is mostly dominated by high pressure however a front moves northwards over the country during Wednesday and Thursday brings some rain.

On Monday a ridge brings mainly settled weather to most of New Zealand. An easterly airflow over the North Island brings some cloud at times Auckland northwards, a few showers for Northland also. For the lower South Island a front brings some rain to South Westland, a few spots may spread east at times.

Still quite settled on Tuesday, a few showers possible about Gisborne, East Cape, Coromandel and Northland however. For the South Island another mainly sunny day is on the cards however a front still clings to the far south bringing some rain in the west and gradually into Southland and Otago.

The odd shower affects exposed northeastern parts of the North Island once again on Wednesday then in the afternoon many inland areas could see isolated showers develop due to some instability. A front pushes northwards over the South Island during the day bringing some rain to most regions.

Rain moves onto the North Island on Thursday as this front pushes further northwards, the South Island has easing showers in the east and clearing sunny skies developing in the west. Looking mainly sunny out west on Friday, a few showers could still affect eastern regions due to an area of low pressure out east bringing some reinvigorated energy into a cool southerly airflow.

Hi there

I’d say a 30% chance of a light shower or two then a 40 to 50% chance of a light shower from mid afternoon, with those showers from mid afternoon comes a small risk one or two isolated showers could be heavy but they will be very hit and miss so you might see nothing in that regard.

Hope the pour goes well otherwise! Showers by their very nature mean there should be lots of dry periods too.

Cheers
Aaron
