An anticyclone lies over New Zealand today and while conditions will on the whole be rather settled there is still likely to be plenty of cloud about in some places. A few areas will experience some sun mainly about Central Otago and Nelson in the South Island then western areas plus northern parts of the North Island.
Upper North Island
Mostly sunny weather with some cloud at times mainly during the afternoon, expect afternoon sea breezes for most. There is the low risk of an isolated afternoon shower about Auckland and the Waikato. Tauranga in the Bay Of Plenty could experience a morning shower and then again later in the day. Mostly cloudy in Gisborne with the chance of a morning drizzle patch and southerly breezes, the odd sunny area may develop from afternoon
HIGHS: 24-26
Lower North Island
Mostly sunny weather in the west and about Wellington after any early cloud clears, expect southerly quarter breezes. Mostly cloudy on the east coast with the chance of a morning drizzle patch and southerly breezes, the odd sunny break from afternoon.
HIGHS: 21-25
Upper South Island
Cloudy to start for most although sunny areas develop in the afternoon, expect north to northeasterly breezes. Cloud may be a bit stubborn in some places hanging around for much of the day mainly on the West Coast and some eastern areas.
HIGHS: 20-23
Lower South Island
Cloudy for many in the morning in coastal places however sunny breaks then pushing through as midday nears, sea breezes in coastal areas and light winds inland. Central Otago will likely see sunny skies all day with warm temperatures.

Warmest – Central Otago
Windiest – East Cape, coming in second northeasterlies will pick up a little along the Canterbury coastline in the afternoon. No strong winds are expected anywhere today.
Sunniest – Central Otago
Wettest – Perhaps Tauranga or eastern parts of the North Island. No major rain is expected anywhere over the country today, only a few brief spits here and there.
