A southwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, cold, however a break from bleak conditions for most regions. Southwesterlies continue on Thursday, mainly settled for most regions however some cloud brings a few showers for the far south of the South Island and western parts of the North Island.

A calmer picture today with most regions seeing some sun, the odd shower persists about Southland however and coastal Otago (mainly this morning for coastal Otago). Showers also clip the coastal fringes along the east coast of the North Island, just inland conditions are drier with some sun.

A few showers push into western parts of the North Island on Thursday, especially afternoon onwards. Sunnier and drier along the east coast however there may be some cloud in the evening. A mostly sunny day for the South Island after a frosty start, showers continue about Southland and expect some cloud at times for Otago.
