An anticyclone brings mainly settled weather to New Zealand today. Mainly settled weather again on Wednesday however unstable conditions may develop about some North Island regions in the afternoon, especially inland where thundery falls are possible.

Morning cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather for most North Island regions today, light winds then afternoon sea breezes. Isolated showers may develop about the ranges of Gisborne down through to Wairarapa this afternoon then clearing evening, some may be heavy. A very similar picture for the South Island, any morning cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather then isolated showers possible in the afternoon about inland areas east of the main divide then clearing in the evening. The risk of showers for the inner South Island is less then the North Island.

Sunny spells for many North Island regions on Wednesday, isolated showers possible in the afternoon especially about inland areas where some may become heavy with thunderstorms then easing in the evening. A mostly sunny day for the South Island, low risk of an isolated shower about inland South Canterbury late afternoon / evening. Any morning cloud clears for the West Coast then sunny with light winds.
