Low pressure hangs around New Zealand today and on Friday bringing mainly unsettled weather.

A dry morning for many North Island regions today then showers develop in the afternoon. The Wellington and perhaps Wairarapa regions sees rain from morning with the odd heavy fall possible during the day. Southeasterlies become gusty through Cook Strait.

Morning rain eases to showers for the eastern South Island, rain could be heavy about Nelson and Marlborough this morning then easing although about the Sounds rain may be fairly persistent for much of the day. Morning showers in the west clear to mostly sunny weather.

Areas of rain about central New Zealand may be heavy at times on Friday, more so about the upper South Island. Showers or cloud for other regions with the driest weather existing about Central Otago.
