A front clears the North Island on Saturday morning off to the northeast while the rest of the country settles in under an anticyclone. Anticyclonic conditions continue on Sunday.

Early rain clearing most of the northeastern North Island on Saturday then sunny spells break through, rain may be heavy in the morning about Gisborne then quickly easing. Early showers clear the lower western North Island then sunny areas increase. The South Island has areas of cloud and occasional sun, cloud may be thicker in most places morning and night, watch for the risk of an isolated shower late afternoon / evening mainly about inland areas.

A mix of sun and cloud for most of the North Island on Sunday, there may be a light shower or two along the east coast in the morning. A light shower or two may feed into the Bay Of Plenty during the day, especially in the west, also into parts of the Waikato and Central North Island. There could be an isolated shower late afternoon / evening about inland parts of the lower North Island. Any morning cloud clears to mostly sunny weather for the upper South Island, there may be an isolated shower late afternoon / evening about inland parts of Canterbury otherwise mainly dry. A shower or two feeds into Fiordland during the day, picking up in intensity later on. Late afternoon / evening could see isolated heavy showers about inland eastern Otago.
