Westerlies cover New Zealand on Saturday then a front with an associated southwest change pushes into the lower South Island in the evening. A colder southwesterly airflow spreads over New Zealand during Sunday, reaching the North Island in the evening. Settled weather and a ridge moves in for a time on Monday.
Rain or showers for western parts of the country on Saturday, drier and sunnier out east with some high cloud. Rain may be heavy at times for the West Coast of the South Island especially South Westland.
Showers for most western regions again on Sunday although they should mostly clear away in the evening. Showers about Southland and Otago work their way up into Canterbury during the afternoon then Marlborough in the evening.
