A large anticyclone centred in the Tasman Sea spreads a ridge over New Zealand today bringing mainly sunny and settled weather. A large anticyclone continues to sit in the Tasman Sea on Tuesday, a west to southwesterly airflow moving around this high flows over the country during the day.

Mostly sunny for much of the North Island today, some cloud in the east this morning breaks away. Mostly sunny and settled for the South Island today also, some morning cloud about Nelson, Marlborough and also Hokitika northwards in the west. Morning cloud about Southland and coastal Otago breaks to mostly sunny weather.

Areas of cloud for western regions on Tuesday, mainly sunny in the east. West to northwesterly winds about coastal Southland and around Stewart Island will be gusty.
