A slim ridge of high pressure lies over New Zealand today while a low is centred just west of the North Island, this low rotates over the upper North Island later in the evening / overnight. A ridge lies over much of New Zealand on Tuesday however a low continues to affect the upper North Island which brings some rain, gradually clearing away during the day.
Dry for much of the North Island today however rain or showers do affect the upper North Island at varying times today, spreading gradually from the north. The South Island is mainly dry also, just some rain this morning about South Westland easing to showers then clearing in the evening. The odd shower about the lower South Island clears this evening also.
Rain or showers clears the upper North Island for most on Tuesday morning then afternoon sun breaks through, showers don’t clear Northland till later in the day however. The odd light shower for the east coast with cool southerlies, drier out west. The South Island is mostly sunny, some morning cloud about Southland / Otago breaks away.
