High pressure is today and Wednesday crossing over the country with lighter winds and cooler nights for some.
Let’s get into the forecast for Tuesday to start with…
RAIN:
Most of the country is dry today but showers develop across central inland parts of the North Island today and possibly around the ranges of the South Island. These afternoon downpours may become heavy with thunderstorms. Track on rain radar today if important to you.
WIND:
High pressure is building over the country so winds are mostly light.
TEMPERATURES:
Temperatures are colder or cooler this morning in many places, and those in the eastern North Island may notice the cooler day the most – with maximum temperatures in places like Hastings and Napier down about 8 to 12 degrees on recent days, but southern centres like Dunedin and Invercargill will notice a few degrees more warmth returning.
DAYS AHEAD
Over Wednesday high pressure moves right over the country bringing more calm weather and mostly dry skies – although a few isolated inland showers are possible. Winds become warmer from the north as the high drifts eastwards from NZ later on Wednesday and Thursday.
Low pressure deepens over the Tasman Sea this week and that brings rain and showers early Thursday from the west. Warm north to north-west winds kick in on Thursday with gales possible for a time around central NZ. Rain may be heavy on the West Coast.
Friday and Saturday see that Tasman Sea low pressure zone drift over NZ, bringing another cooler southerly change on Saturday – but that’s ahead of yet another large high pressure zone.
