Front zipping up the country

WeatherWatch.co.nz

> From the WeatherWatch archives

A front is quickly moving up New Zealand and a cold, calm, morning is likely to turn into a wetter, windier, afternoon for many areas.

In Auckland temperatures have started to jump as westerly winds pick up.  It touched 17 degrees in west Auckland at 9:30am however a passing shower in the last 15 minutes has already taken 2 degrees off that.  WeatherWatch.co.nz expects a high of 18 for most parts of Auckland today.

Northland and Taranaki have also seen a lift in temperatures as the winds increase.

Most South Island centres remain in single digits with particularly cold, wet, conditions in the bottom half.

The main front is now moving up the South Island and is just clearing Southland and moving in to Dunedin.  It will spread into Canterbury this morning while the top end of the front will swing into Taranaki this afternoon.

By midnight it will have cleared the country with a strengthening sou’wester behind it – bringing colder weather and brief but possibly heavy showers in the west for Wednesday.

Rotorua started off sunny, but the cloud moved in and about 4:15PM a shower moved in from the west, looks like more on the way.

Whangarei is having some neat sunny spells interspersed with heavyish showers making it quite wet underfoot, The ground was so dry not so long ago but well soaked now.
Temp is around 19deg so not too bad a day.

Not looking forward to the weekend if the forecast proves correct, looks like a weekend indoors.
