Dunedin airport is leading the charge this morning in terms of cold and frosty conditions with a current reading of minus 5!
A 7.7 degree frost has also been recorded making it the heaviest to date for 2009 for the area.

Canterbury, Otago and Southland are waking up to a frosty start with Christchurch on minus 2 degrees with a frost reading of 3 degrees, Ashburton had a 5 degree frost, Wanaka 4, Queenstown 3 and Invercargill also had a 3 degree frost. Gore escaped with just a slight ground frost.

At the other end of the scale, Auckland and Tauranga are the only centres hitting double figures with 10 degrees.

Temperatures were well below average overall overnight, especially considering when this time last week some areas didn’t drop below 20 degrees on consecutive nights.
