New Zealand is beginning to enjoy a weekend with settled weather thanks to a high pressure ridge briefly spreading south over the country for most of Sunday.
Weak winds and almost cloudless skies will help lead to significant cooling, temperatures early Sunday morning will be fairly low. Temperatures below 3C are widely possible in the South Island and some parts of the North Island, bringing a risk of frost. A light frost is possible as far north as about Waikato.
Sunday will be a sunny day over almost the entire country, but from later on Sunday northerly winds will develop along the western coastline as a deep low approaches and this will bring clouds to some in the west.
Rain moves in on Monday morning to many areas from the west and north.
