As we wind up day 6 of our 7 day low we see the system giving its final gasps of energy across the southern South Island and western North Island this afternoon.
WeatherWatch.co.nz predicts it will finally clear the country in the early hours of Thursday morning.
A few brief heavy showers remain over western parts of the North Island, from Northland to Manawatu, including Auckland city.
However conditions are a little warmer in the north today with 16s and 17s being recorded in a number of centres from New Plymouth and Napier northwards.
Colder winds still being produced by our 7 day low are affecting eastern and southern parts of the South Island. It’s just 12 in Kaikoura, 10 in Akaroa and Oamaru, and 11 in Dunedin.
In Invercargill it’s 10 degrees with a strong westerly and showers.
In Wellington it’s sunny with blue skies but conditions are cool with a light southerly and only 13 degrees.

Light southerly? I was in town at lunchtime and back up at cable car terminal afterwards, not a breath of wind at that time.
