Your weekend forecast: Mostly dry, mostly calm but lingering downpours (+3 Maps)

> From the WeatherWatch archives

The weekend ahead is looking mainly dry but a few showers and heavy downpours remain. Heavy rain is now mostly out at sea from Northland and has cleared with the sun returning.

As of 1:40pm Just a few remaining isolated showers were left in the North Island, mostly inland and rural areas.

Across Friday and Saturday there are no significant disturbances around the country.

However the left overs of the sub-tropical rain band remains to the north of the country and a front is likely to migrate from the north and affect the northern part of the country. There is a very fine line between rain and dry around the Auckland/Northland area on Sunday.

The South Island will be mostly sunny except coastal Southland where clouds and a perhaps a few showers may remain.

The North Island will have a mix of sun and cloud with clouds potentially increasing at night with even foggy patches possible in some areas, like over the Kaimai Ranges between Bay of Plenty and Waikato.

On Sunday, Auckland and Northland will have rain or showers some of which could be very heavy (Northland).
