November 5th is a busy day with fireworks celebrations in New Zealand and Melbourne Cup in Australia.
GUY FAWKES – NEW ZEALAND:
The weather outlook for fireworks and bonfires tonight looks pretty good nationwide. Apart from some rain on the West Coast, mostly the southern half – and also some showers or patchy rain in Southland the rest of New Zealand is dry with mainly light winds. Around Welington a breezy to brisk Nor’Wester may be a bit problematic for some.
Again all of New Zealand is warmer than average today with some places over 10 degrees above normal as a heatwave continues inland through both islands. While perfect weather for being outdoors, it also heightens the risk of fires.
FIRE RISK – Many parts of New Zealand are dry and with a warm to hot day ahead please note scrub and grass fires may be highly likely in your area. Take extreme care and have water nearby.
ANIMALS – We know many animals don’t like fireworks. Cats, dogs, horses in particular can be extremely stressed. Please consider animals, pets and nearby homes/farms.
7PM RAIN MAP:
MELBOURNE CUP
The forecast for the Melbourne Cup today looks excellent – dry and fast.
For the race at 3pm local time (5pm NZDT) the forecast looks DRY with a temperature of 17 degrees C.
Conditions look partly to mostly cloudy with westerly breezes of around 10km/h.
