After yesterday’s chills, today’s main risk is wind.
Right on the east coast of the South Island winds will be gust strongly from the southwest during the day, reaching gale at times – especially about Banks Peninsula.
South to southwesterly winds will also blow strongly about Cook Strait and Wellington – also for coastal Wairarapa – possibly gusting to gale in these places.
Winds start to ease from the afternoon along the east coast of the South Island, while winds further north will be fairly persistent for much of the day.
