Freezing cold winds are blasting central regions from Christchurch to Napier this morning.  A strong southerly is pumping cold air into eastern regions with gusts reaching gale force in exposed parts of Wellington.
Current wind chills.  This is what the air feels like in the wind:
Christchurchand Wellington:  2 degrees
Kaikoura: minus 2
Lower Hutt:  1 deg
Paraparaumu: 5 deg
Palmerston North and Napier:  6 deg
