Weekend bliss, easterlies a bit brisk up north though

> From the WeatherWatch archives

This coming weekend is looking great weather wise for all of us really, well…. nearly all of us.

An anticyclone with its centre just east of the country will cover New Zealand on Saturday and Sunday. The top spots to be with the sunniest skies and lightest winds will be western parts of both islands, Central Otago and Southland. Most other places look good too although east to northeast breezes may be a little brisk in eastern coastal areas.

Once one ventures up towards Gisborne and then into Northland the easterly airflow riding around the anticyclone will deliver cloudy areas and maybe even the odd light shower at times to these regions. Winds will be quite brisk even strong at times from the east about Northland too particularly on Sunday.

Temperatures in the South Island on Saturday and Sunday could get towards the early 30’s for parts of Central Otago, perhaps late 20’s in Southland. Elsewhere can look forward to low to mid 20 high’s. In the North Island high’s in the mid 20’s seem likely for most. Wellington, Hawkes Bay and Gisborne may only get to 22 or 23 degrees however.

So that is how your weekend is shaping up. Have a great one.
