Wednesday’s weather headlines (x3): Warm in the east, Heavy rain West Coast, Cool down on Friday

Here’s what is making the weather headlines today.

WARM IN THE EAST TODAY

Eastern regions still look to get warm temperatures today with high’s likely to reach into the mid twenties Canterbury northwards, the warmest highs will be inland away from the coast as right on the coast winds could tend more northeast. Otago gets warm too but not really getting out of the early twenties.

The upper North Island is warm also with high’s reaching up to 23 or 24 Waikato northwards.

HEAVY RAIN WEST COAST THIS EVENING, THUNDERSTORMS OVERNIGHT

Heavy rain starts to develop for the West Coast this evening, later this evening or overnight thunderstorms start to move in for some parts. Keep up to date with the latest from Metservices thunderstorm outlook here.

COOL DOWN ON FRIDAY

The airflow changes to the southwest over New Zealand on Friday bringing in cooler temperatures, rain for western regions eases first thing to showers. Eastern regions have some morning rain, easing to showers in the afternoon and clearing evening.

Showers will continue overnight for the West Coast and about Southland / Otago.
