Here’s what is making the weather headlines today…..
HEAVY SHOWERS + THUNDER INLAND CANTERBURY
Instability forms late this afternoon about inland Canterbury, inland South and Mid Canterbury especially. Isolated thunderstorms may develop with the chance of downpours then clearing later on.
The upper North Island has isolated showers develop also, they South Island ones look to potentially have a bit more beef to them.

WARM FOR MOST TODAY
Most regions around New Zealand have warm temperatures today, high’s getting into the low to mid twenties. The eastern North Island is a bit cooler though with showers and temperatures in the late teens.
COLD CHANGE ON THE WAY THU / FRI
A cold front moves onto the lower South Island on Thursday morning, reaching central New Zealand around midnight then pushing further north over the North Island on Friday morning. This front will bring rain in the west and east, conditions clear up quicker in the west once the front moves through.
It will be warm in the east for the South Island, getting into the late twenties for Canterbury on Thursday afternoon then when the change hits temperatures will take a tumble.
There is still some frost potential for the lower half of the South Island about inland areas on Saturday morning, this risk decreases and shifts to the upper South Island for Sunday morning.
