Wednesday’s News: Front rips northwards, Warm in the east and north, High pressure on Friday

Here’s what is making the weather headlines today….

FRONT RIPS NORTHWARDS

A front pushes northeast over the South Island today bringing some heavy rain in the west, this evening rain gets into Nelson and Marlborough then overnight the southwestern corner of the North Island (Taranaki through to Wellington). Taranaki may see some heavy rain here.

Overnight another front or trough pushes onto the West Coast bringing further heavy showers, this time with a chance of thunderstorms and hail. It’s not an overly high risk but a chance is there.

WARM IN THE EAST AND NORTH

Warming up today for eastern regions and for much of the North Island, temperatures stay reasonably good on Thursday and Friday also.

HIGH PRESSURE ON FRIDAY

A high moves in over New Zealand on Friday bringing settled weather, there may even be a light frost to start for some inland areas especially the South Island.

Saturday is mainly settled also, Sunday we start to see a few showers appear for the upper North Island and western regions. A front brings heavy rain to Fiordland.
