A front pushes northwards over the South Island today, reaching the lower North Island this evening. Expect rain with the front, heavy falls possible especially about inland South Island areas.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Fog or low cloud possible then sunny spells, a few isolated showers possible in the afternoon as a dominant westerly quarter breeze pushes through.
Highs: 23-24

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Partly cloudy with the odd shower, rain develops later in the evening as northwesterlies swing around to the south.
Highs: 20-24

Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny and warm, some cloud for Wairarapa brings the odd spit or shower from afternoon. Rain develops about Wairarapa in the evening as southerlies freshen.
Highs: 25-26

Wellington

Increasing cloud with the odd spit or shower, rain develops in the evening as southerlies freshen.
Highs: 21-22

Marlborough & Nelson

A dry morning with sun, showers then rain develops in the afternoon as southerlies freshen. Southerlies may not reach into Nelson till later in the day.
Highs: 24-25

Canterbury

Rain, heavy falls possible especially inland then easing in the evening. Rain may not become persistent about North Canterbury till afternoon then easing there overnight as a rain band moves northwards. Fresh south to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-18

West Coast

Rain, possibly heavy. Clearing Fiordland in the morning then further north later on although Buller continues to see showers overnight. Southerlies tend southeast as rain clears.
Highs: 18-21

Southland & Otago
Morning rain eases to showers, sunny spells break through from midday. South to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-15
