Wednesday’s national forecast – SW airflow eases

A southwesterly airflow still lies over the country today but it is easing, we still see showers in the west and far south, dry and sunny weather in the east.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Cloudy areas and the odd shower, Bay Of Plenty is dry but expect some high cloud. Fresh southwesterlies.
Highs: 14 – 16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy areas with the odd shower, fresh west to northwesterly winds, tending more southwest for northern Taranaki.
Highs: 9 – 15

Eastern North Island

Sunny with some high cloud possible, mid level cloud south of Napier now and then, chance of a shower from afternoon. Westerlies tend southwest during the afternoon / evening.
Highs: 15 – 17

Wellington

Sunny with a touch of high cloud possible, light winds.
High: 14 – 15

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny with a touch of high cloud possible. Southwesterlies for Nelson, light winds elsewhere.
Highs: 14 – 16

Canterbury

Sunny, light winds tend southwest in the afternoon near the coast. Late coastal cloud possible.
Highs: 11 – 14

West Coast

Mostly cloudy with a few showers for North Westland / Buller, clearing in the evening. South Westland sees increasing sunny areas from morning with dry weather developing early on. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 10 – 14

Southland & Otago
Mostly cloudy for Southland and coastal Otago (south of Otago Peninsula) with the odd shower, northern and Central Otago has longer sunny spells and dry weather. West to southwesterly winds, strong about the coast but easing later on.
Highs: 10 – 11
