A southwesterly airflow lies over the country today bringing cloud and a few showers for some, areas of sun too especially in the west.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mix of sun and cloud, showers for Auckland and north of there retreat northwards during the day and gradually fizzle away, showers not clearing Northland till evening. Western Bay Of Plenty and perhaps parts of Waikato may see a few isolated showers spring up in the afternoon for a time. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 17 – 20

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
A mix of sun and cloud, a few isolated showers may spread into Manawatu from the east in the afternoon, clearing evening. Southerly winds.
Highs: 11 – 18

Eastern North Island

Showers, heavy rain north of Napier eases in the morning. Sun starts to break through in the afternoon with showers retreating inland then clearing in the evening. Southerly winds.
Highs: 15 – 17

Wellington

Cloudy areas, a few showers too mainly around midday. Southerly winds.
Highs: 14 – 16

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly cloudy with a few showers, showers may become heavy about some inland hills and ranges in the afternoon (especially Tasman) then easing later on. South to southeasterly winds for Marlborough, north to northeasterly winds for Nelson.
Highs: 14 – 16

Canterbury

Mostly cloudy, morning showers clear Kaikoura. Some sun possible in the afternoon, mainly north of Banks Peninsula, cloud thickens again in the evening. Chance of a shower or drizzle patch for inland areas after midday. Gentle southerlies.
Highs: 13 – 15

West Coast

A mix of sun and cloud, a few isolated showers about the ranges in the afternoon, some may be heavy for Buller then clearing at night. Light winds.
Highs: 16 – 18

Southland & Otago
Mostly cloudy with a shower or two, cloud breaks late afternoon or evening for Southland. Gentle south to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 13 – 16
