Wednesday’s national forecast – Southwest airflow

A southwesterly airflow lies over the country today, most eastern regions still have showers however and winds are strong from Wellington up through to Gisborne along the coast. Western regions have sunnier weather today.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny, morning showers for Northland clear away. Southerly winds.
Highs: 18-21

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Partly cloudy, chance of a shower. Showers more likely for a time in the afternoon. Snow flurries possible about higher parts of the Desert Road. Southerly winds, strong about the coast.
Highs: 9-15

Eastern North Island

Cloudy areas and occasional showers. Gusty cold southwesterly winds, strong to gale about the coast especially later in the day.
Highs: 12-15

Wellington

Showers, easing in the evening. Strong cold southerly winds, gales through Cook Strait.
Highs: 12-13

Marlborough & Nelson

Partly cloudy, southerly winds.
Highs: 14-17

Canterbury

Mostly cloudy with showers or rain, clearing later in the evening. Snow to 600, perhaps 500m. South Canterbury (more so inland) has a dry day. Fresh southwesterlies ease later in the day.
Highs: 10-13

West Coast

Sunny for most, Buller has some cloud in the afternoon. Easing southeasterlies.
Highs: 16-17

Southland & Otago
Mostly sunny for Southland and Central Otago, a few clouds now and then especially in the east, easterly winds. Coastal Otago is mostly cloudy with the odd shower, clearing evening, southeast winds.
Highs: 12-13
