Wednesday’s national forecast – Southwest airflow

A southwesterly airflow lies over the country today, showers in the west and south. Some rain for Canterbury later today as southerlies push northwards.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Cloud breaks to sunny spells in the afternoon, Bay Of Plenty is mostly sunny. The odd shower out west clears in the evening. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 23-26

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
A shower or two, clearing in the afternoon then sunny spells increase, westerly winds.
Highs: 19-23

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny, some cloud for Wairarapa. Light winds then afternoon sea breezes for Hawkes Bay and Gisborne.
Highs: 25-27

Wellington

A mix of sun and cloud, light winds. Overnight showers as winds change to the south.
Highs: 22-25

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny, southern Marlborough has some cloud and the risk of a shower. Light winds then afternoon sea breezes.
Highs: 23-25

Canterbury

Morning cloud breaks to sunny spells, a few showers, more so nearer the coast. In the evening southerlies push northwards with some rain.
Highs: 20-22

West Coast

Cloudy areas and occasional showers, Fiordland may have some rain. In the evening conditions dry out north of Fiordland. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-20

Southland & Otago
Showers, parts of Central Otago may not get showers till afternoon then drying out in the evening. North Otago may have some rain, easing later in the day. West to southwesterly winds, strong about the coast.
Highs: 14-20
