A northeasterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, moving around a large high out to our east. Some instability this afternoon for inland parts of the North Island thanks to good surface moisture and some slight cooling aloft. A trough also brings showers to the northwestern corner of the South island.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Partly cloudy, a few showers north of Auckland in a northeasterly airflow. Waikato and Bay Of Plenty may see a few afternoon isolated showers.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Partly cloudy, isolated afternoon showers develop, one or two could become heavy with thunder mainly inland, clearing at night. Light winds tend onshore after midday.
Highs: 18-24
Eastern North Island
Partly cloudy, isolated showers may develop inland about the ranges during the afternoon, clearing evening. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 21-23
Wellington
A mix of sun and cloud, chance of an isolated shower late afternoon or early evening mainly inland. Northerlies.
Highs: 22-26
Marlborough & Nelson
Partly cloudy, a shower or two passes over Tasman and perhaps Nelson from afternoon. Northerly winds.
Highs: 22-25
Canterbury
A mix of sun and cloud, any morning coastal showers clear. East to northeasterly winds freshen up in the afternoon then ease at night.
Highs: 21-26
West Coast
Partly cloudy skies, a few showers push in from the north for Buller late afternoon, a few may reach Greymouth overnight. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 20-25
Southland & Otago
A mix of sun and cloud, any morning drizzle for coastal Otago clears. Light winds tend onshore around midday. Northeasterlies a bit breezy for coastal Otago after midday.
