A ridge lies over New Zealand today bringing mainly settled weather, a northeasterly airflow flowing around the outer northern side of the ridge pushes into the North Island bringing rain or showers.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly cloudy with rain, perhaps a few heavy falls, easing back this afternoon. Easterly winds freshen.
Highs: 20-24

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
A mix of sun and cloud, a few afternoon isolated showers mainly inland. Light winds tend onshore after midday.
Highs: 22-26

Eastern North Island

Partly cloudy skies, a few light showers for East Cape. The odd isolated shower springs up about the ranges in the afternoon, clearing at night. Isolated showers for Wairarapa may be heavy with thunder.
Highs: 23-26

Wellington

Partly cloudy, risk of a light morning shower. There may be an isolated shower in the afternoon about some inland hills and ranges. Northerly winds.
Highs: 23-26

Marlborough & Nelson

Morning cloud, chance of a shower then sunny areas increase, light winds tend to the north by midday.
Highs: 22-28

Canterbury

Sun and some high cloud, areas of mid level cloud too mainly later in the day. Light winds tend east to southeast after midday.
Highs: 23-27

West Coast

Partly cloudy skies, a few showers about Fiordland clear in the afternoon. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 20-25

Southland & Otago
Mostly sunny with a few afternoon clouds, chance of an isolated shower late afternoon or early evening for inland areas. Light winds tend east to southeast after midday.
Highs: 22-27
