A frontal system over the North Island this morning pushes out to the east this afternoon meanwhile another front moves onto the South Island. Strong westerly winds tend northwest this afternoon.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Morning showers, some heavy with thunder then easing with sunny areas increasing. Drying up in the afternoon out east. Strong westerlies tend northwest in the evening.
Highs: 19-21
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning rain, possibly heavy with thunder then easing to showers, sunny spells break through in the afternoon. Later in the evening showers move back in, possibly becoming heavy about the coast with thunder. Strong west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 13-19
Eastern North Island
Morning rain clears then sunny areas increase, winds strong from the west. Rain spreads from the west into Wairarapa during the evening then further north overnight.
Highs: 21-24
Wellington
Morning rain clears then sunny areas develop, northwesterlies strengthen from afternoon. Evening showers especially in the north then some overnight widespread rain.

Marlborough & Nelson
Any morning spits or showers clear then becoming mostly sunny, northwesterlies strengthen from afternoon. Evening rain spreads from the west.

Canterbury
Morning spits or showers clear then mostly sunny, in the evening heavy rain pushes into the high country and a few spits may reach the coast. Westerlies tend northwest in the afternoon and strengthen.
Highs: 18-23
West Coast
Showers, rain develops about Fiordland during the morning then pushing northwards during the afternoon, possibly heavy with thunderstorms. Westerlies tend northwest after midday.
Highs: 12-17
Southland & Otago
A mostly sunny morning, any early showers about coastal Otago clear. Isolated showers develop in the afternoon, some may become heavy with thunder. Winds from the northwest, tending onshore in the afternoon about coastal areas.
