Wednesday’s national forecast – High starts to move away

A high pressure system starts to move away from the South Island but still hangs over the North Island, a weak front approaches the far south.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mostly cloudy morning with north to northeasterly winds, a few showers also. Sunny spells start to break through from afternoon, any remaining showers clear in the evening.
Highs: 17-19

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
A few showers about Taranaki, spreading elsewhere during the morning, clearing later in the evening. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-18

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny, some afternoon cloud moves through with northerlies then tending northwest. A few afternoon spots of rain possible also, mainly south of Napier.
Highs: 19-21

Wellington

Morning sun then some afternoon cloud, a few spits may develop in the afternoon also mainly in the north. Northwesterlies becoming gusty.
High: 16-17

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny, some high cloud. Northwesterly winds, gusty in the afternoon for Marlborough. Afternoon northerlies for Nelson.
Highs: 18-23

Canterbury

Sunny areas and high cloud, light winds tend to the south in the evening. Overnight spits or showers possible for South Canterbury.
Highs: 19-23

West Coast

Mostly cloudy with occasional showers, Buller may have sunny spells. Light northerly quarter winds.
Highs: 14-16

Southland & Otago
A dry morning with high cloud, a few showers moving in around midday for Southland then Otago during the afternoon as light northwesterlies change southwest.
Highs: 12-19
