A few heavy showers for northeastern parts of the North Island today thanks to some instability. Calmer for the South Island with a cold start this morning for some.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Partly cloudy with isolated showers developing in the morning, mostly clearing in the afternoon. One or two showers may become heavy for Northland and eastern Bay Of Plenty, the eastern Bay Of Plenty showers may turn thundery (and even more so for East Cape). Heavy showers clear away late afternoon or evening. Southwesterlies.
Highs: 16 – 18
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning showers clear, sunny spells increase in the afternoon as southeasterlies tend to the west. Showers may take a bit longer to clear the Central North Island.
Highs: 12 – 16
Eastern North Island
Showers south of Napier spread north during the morning, clearing from the south late afternoon or evening, one or two showers may be heavy, especially about the ranges of northern Hawkes Bay and Gisborne with a chance of thunder. Southerlies swing around to the east or northeast as the day progresses.
Highs: 14 – 17
Wellington
A few morning showers clear, becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon as southeasterlies tend northerly then freshen.
Highs: 13 – 14
Marlborough & Nelson
Any morning showers clear then mostly sunny, southerlies tend north to northwest in the afternoon (increasing for Marlborough). Nelson has evening southwesterlies.
Highs: 16 – 18
Canterbury
Any early showers clear then becoming mostly sunny, northeasterlies tend northwest in the afternoon and increase especially inland.
Highs: 16 – 19
West Coast
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, rain picks up for Fiordland from afternoon. West to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 11 – 13
Southland & Otago
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, patchy rain or showers move in late afternoon for Southland, perhaps reaching Otago overnight. West to northwesterly winds pick up during the afternoon, becoming strong for coastal Southland and coastal Otago.
