Wednesday’s national forecast – Heavy rain West Coast

A front lies over the South Island today bringing heavy rain in the west, strong northerly winds ahead of the front. The North Island is dry with northerlies.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, northerly winds.
Highs: 21-24

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, some mid level cloud about Taranaki and Kapiti especially from afternoon. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 19-23

Eastern North Island

Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, northerly winds.
Highs: 22-28

Wellington

Mostly cloudy with rain developing overnight, strong to gale northerly winds.
Highs: 17-20

Marlborough & Nelson

Thick high cloud, a few spots of rain develop about Nelson in the morning then spreading into Marlborough during the afternoon. More persistent rain develops overnight. Strong north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 17-21

Canterbury

Plenty of high cloud, rain becomes heavy in the high country from afternoon and a few spots may then reach the coast. Gusty northerlies develop in the afternoon especially for North Canterbury.
Highs: 20-25

West Coast

Rain with heavy falls, rain particularly heavy from afternoon then easing a touch overnight. Brisk to strong northerly winds.
Highs: 16-17

Southland & Otago
Mostly sunny, some high cloud, winds from the north. Rain about the Lakes District spreading from the west. Rain develops in the evening for most especially about Southland where winds change to the south.
Highs: 18-22
