Wednesday’s national forecast – Heavy rain central NZ

A front moves off the upper South Island this morning onto the lower North Island bringing with it some heavy rain, easing later today. High pressure builds over the South Island behind the front, expect a northeast airflow further north.

Marlborough & Nelson
Early heavy rain eases to showers, thinning out from afternoon, clearing evening. Sun may break through later in the day before dusk. Northeasterlies in the afternoon.
Highs: 19-21

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Cloudy periods and occasional showers, northeasterly winds.
Highs: 21-23

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Rain, perhaps the chance of a heavy fall. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 17-21

Eastern North Island

Mostly cloudy, the odd spit of rain although up towards Gisborne there may be sun with warmer temperatures. Rain more likely south of Napier. Northerly winds.
Highs: 20-24

Wellington

Rain, possibly heavy in the morning then easing, only a few showers remain by evening. Northerlies change southerly in the afternoon.
Highs: 18-20

Canterbury

A few light showers, mainly morning, cloud starts to break to sun in the afternoon. Light southwesterlies.
Highs: 16-17

West Coast

Sunny, morning rain clears Buller. Light winds.
Highs: 18-21

Southland & Otago
Morning cloud, perhaps a clearing shower then sunny areas increase in the afternoon. Coastal Otago may see cloud linger for much of the day. Light winds.
Highs: 15-18
