Expect a very frosty morning for the South Island thanks to a ridge of high pressure, the North Island has a southeasterly airflow with showers in the east, some rain north of Auckland.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Rain or showers north of Coromandel / Auckland, rain may be heavy. Waikato and Bay Of Plenty is mainly dry with partly cloudy skies, sunnier southern Waikato and eastern BOP. Winds from the southeast.
Highs: 13-16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Any early showers clear the Central Plateau and Kapiti, mostly sunny otherwise with southeasterly winds, gusty for Taranaki.
Highs: 6-13

Eastern North Island

Mostly cloudy with showers, thinning out in the afternoon a little. A few light snow flurries in the ranges to 600/400m. Southerly winds.
Highs: 9-12

Wellington

Morning showers clear, a mostly cloudy day but some sun may break through at times in the afternoon, southeasterly winds.
High: 9

Marlborough & Nelson

Partly cloudy for Marlborough, east to southeasterly winds. Nelson has mostly sunny weather with light winds.
Highs: 9-12

Canterbury

A mix of sun and cloud, morning showers clear Kaikoura. A few overnight showers near the coast, namely Banks Peninsula. Light winds.
Highs: 3-9

West Coast

Sunny with light winds, a frosty start inland away from the coast.
Highs: 9-12

Southland & Otago
A frosty start, some sun then cloud develops late morning for Southland, thickening Otago late afternoon. Evening showers for Southland. Light winds tend southwest around midday.
Highs: 5-9
