Wednesday’s national forecast – Frosty in the south

A high starts to move in from the Tasman Sea today with a southwest airflow easing over the country, inland parts of the South Island may wake up to a frost. Still a few showers right along the eastern coastline into this afternoon but these will eventually clear.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Morning showers then sunny areas increase, southwesterly winds.
Highs: 20-21

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Early showers clear then mostly sunny, southerlies die away.
Highs: 12-19

Eastern North Island

Morning showers clear then becoming mostly sunny, showers may not clear Gisborne till afternoon. Southwesterlies die away tending light easterly for a time before dusk.
Highs: 16-19

Wellington

Any early cloud clears then sunny with southerlies dying away, some cloud again later in the day.
Highs: 16-17

Marlborough & Nelson

Any morning cloud clears then sunny, light winds tend onshore in the afternoon.
Highs: 17-19

Canterbury

Mainly sunny with a cold start for inland areas, showers about the coast clear in the morning, showers on Banks Peninsula may be a little slower in clearing. Fresh southwesterlies near the coast die out later in the day.
Highs: 15-17

West Coast

Sunny with light winds but southwesterlies for Fiordland and Buller.
Highs: 16-19

Southland & Otago
Cloudy areas for Southland with the odd shower, coastal Otago has a few morning showers then sunny spells from afternoon. Central Otago has sunnier skies with cold temperatures to start the day inland. West to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-16
